Baking pizzas on your BBQ is fun and tasty! When everything is finished and everyone has had their fill, there will be some cleaning up to do. Do this in the right way and you can enjoy your purchase for many years to come. In this blog, we will give you some tips on how best to clean and maintain your pizza stone.
To start with, it is good to know that we have 2 types of pizza stones in our range. The 'regular' pizza stone and the pizza stone Pro. The pizza stone Pro has an aluminium tray that works as a heat spreader. This ensures that the pizza stone Pro heats up evenly over the entire surface. The 'regular' pizza stone does not have this feature, but it does have a chrome-plated holder, which makes it easy to place and remove the stone from the BBQ.

A pizza stone should never be immersed in water. Pizza stones are made of a very porous material and should therefore not get too wet. The stone will absorb the water and can easily break during the next use. Never use washing-up liquid to clean the stone. This will also absorb the stone, which could make your pizza taste like soap the next time you use it. Not very tasty.
It is best to simply wipe the pizza stone clean with a cloth after use (and after it has cooled down). Stubborn residue can be scraped off with a metal dough scraper or spatula.
It is perfectly normal for the pizza stone to darken and discolour over time. This does not affect the taste of the next pizza you bake on the stone.
Here is a list of all the do's and don'ts for cleaning and maintaining your pizza stone in the right way:
